Boy Scout Troop 408 History

BSA Troop 408 has been serving the Germanton and Walnut Cove areas in Stokes County, NC since February of 1961. It was originally chartered and established by a group of men at Palmyra. Scout meetings for the first few years were held in the basement at Palmyra. The Scouts raised funds by having Stews and Fish Fries.

In the mid 60's, plans were made to build a Scout Hut for Troop 408. The first donation to the Scout Hut building project was $50 given by A.V. Chapman. Other funds were raised by growing tobacco. Montgomery Brothers Grading, Inc. donated 2.06 acres of land on Piney Mountain Road for the Scout Hut to be built on. In 1967, construction began on the Scout Hut and the transfer of land ownership to Troop 408 completed on Dec. 28, 1968. All Boy Scouts in Troop 408, at the time of construction, helped with the building project.
